Billy Gibbons Wins Big At The 40th Blues Music Awards

Last week saw the 40th Blues Music Awards ceremony at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Two of the big winners were ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons and blues legend Buddy Guy.

Gibbons walked away with the Blues Rock Album award for his 2018 solo album The Big Bad Blues as well as a nomination for the Blues Rock Artist prize, that eventually went to Eric Gales.

As for Buddy Guy, he took away the Traditional Blues Album. This was for guy’s latest record, The Blues Is Alive and Well. His track “Cognac” which was taken from the album and features guitar work from guitarists Jeff Beck and Keith Richards was also up for Song of the Year. That honor went to No Mercy in This Land” By Ben Harper.

Hosting the ceremony for the second year in a row, was Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt.
