Blues Music Awards Nominees Announced

‘Tis the season for award nominations. The Blues Music Awards nominations have beenblue sq released with Buddy Guy and Shemekia Copeland both nominated for the prestigious awards.

The shortlist has been released ahead of 37th annual gala ceremony in Memphis, Tennessee on May 5th next year.

James Harman has received five nominations while Anthony Geraci and Sugaray Rayford have four each.

Blues heavyweights Buddy Guy and Shemekia Copeland are both listed in the Contemporary Blues Album category. Buddy Guy’s Born To Play Guitar is also in the running for Album Of The Year.

Copeland is also among the B.B. King Entertainer and Contemporary Blues Female Artist finalists. Joining Copeland in the category is Beth Hart, Karen Lovely, Nikki Hill and Samantha Fish.

Organizers of the awards say: “The Blues Music Awards are universally recognized as the most legitimate accolade afforded to blues music performers. The annual ceremony is to honor this rich cultural tradition by recognizing the past year’s superior achievements in blues performance, songwriting and recording.”
