At the beginning of this year Raitt announced that she would be opening for Taylor for his arena tour beginning May 8th in Jacksonville Florida. It would be the pairs second stint together over the last few years.

This will not be happening according to her website and via her emailing list to fans. Why you may ask? Well, it was discovered recently during Raitt’s annual physical that she now requires some sort of surgery that she cannot put off. On the Brightside though, the press announcement said however, that “the prognosis is good and a full recovery is expected.”

Raitt explained in her announcement: “I’m deeply sorry to have to disappoint my fans, James and colleagues with these cancellations,” adding: “I was so looking forward to our tour, but I’m very grateful that the doctors feel this can be taken care of with surgery. I’m feeling strong and am in great hands with my wonderful team. I fully expect to return for the second leg of the U.S. tour in June followed by our European tour in July.”

As for James Taylor’s response to the news, he posted: . “This summer was to be Bonnie’s and my second summer touring together. We wanted to do it again because it was such good fun the first time, we didn’t want it to end,” and added: “We are so looking forward to having her rejoin the tour in mid-June. Of course, there is no question as to the priority of your health, Bonnie. You will be constantly in our hearts and minds until we see you in June.”

Taylor also added a quote from Elaine Benes, Julia Louis Dreyfuss’ character in the hit show Seinfeld, “Get well. Get well soon. We hope you get well soon … “
