It seems like a lifetime ago since “Oh Sherry” was blasting out over the airwaves. In great news for all Steve Perry fans, the former Journey singer says he is busy in the studio recording his first solo album in over 20 years.
Perry told 100.3 The Sound Los Angeles’ Mark In The Morning Show, “I’m in the studio,” he said.
“You know, actually, I started — there’s been so many rumors going around that I’m in the studio,
that I’ve been there for years. The truth is, I finally went into the studio in March, and I’ve been in there ever since, just trying to finish this record.”
During the interview, Perry was asked by the hosts when his album would be available for release. Perry replied: “Well, I’ve asked myself that today. I mean, I certainly am looking forward to finishing it, put it that way. I wanna get it done probably in the early part of this coming year.”
The ex-Journey man’s last album was his 1994 effort, For The Love Of A Strange Medicine. The album earned Perry a US Top 30 hit with “You Better Wait” and went on to earn the singer a gold alum for sales in excess of 500,000 copies.
Tongues started wagging when the singer hit the stage last year following an 18-year absence. He performed a few Journey songs with friends from the alt rockers, EELS.
Easily one of the most recognizable voices in music, it will be great to hear one of rock’s all time greats back in action.
