As we said earlier this week, Genesis will be reforming for their first tour since 2007.
What some of you may not know is that instead of Phil Collins pounding the drums in the background, this time around it will be Phil’s son Nic. At only 18 years old, Nic will be joining Mike Rutherford on guitar, Tony Banks on keyboards and of course Phil on vocals for what is being called The Last Domino? Tour.
Phil has been plagued with back problems for a while now and in 2016 he said that he would “never play the way” he used to. He explained: “At the end of each show, I had a drumming duel, one night something happened. It just went.” Following back surgery to try and correct the problem, he realized that he was left with some serious issues with his hips and what is known as a “dropped foot”, which has Phil now walking with a stick on a permeant basis.
As for Nic taking over his father’s spot as the band’s drummer, well he’s certainly not a novice. He made his debut in 2017, replacing his father at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. Nic said about the experience: “Doing it at the US Open was very nerve-racking.” Oh, and by the way, he had to get time away from school in order to attend the gig. Pretty cool indeed.
The tour kicks off in Britain and Ireland and opens in Dublin on November 16th, 2020.
