Hip hop legend Jay Z has announced that he will be releasing a brand new album titled ‘4:44’. The record is set to be Jay Z’s thirteenth studio release, and follows his hugely successful 2013 album ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’.
Jay Z is undeniably one of the most influential musicians of the 21st century, and has experienced huge commercial success with basically everything he has ever released. Like some kind of modern
day King Midas, Jay Z truly has the golden touch and expectations have been through the roof ever since ‘4:44’ was first teased several weeks ago.
2013’s ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ was one of Jay Z’s most successful records to date. The album peaked at number one in both the US and UK, and was supported by the critically acclaimed singles ‘Holy Grail’, ‘Tom Ford’, and ‘Part II (On The Run)’. It has since been certified double platinum.
‘4:44’ is scheduled to be released on June 30 via Roc Nation. The album was solely produced by hip hop heavyweight No I.D, and will be exclusive to Jay Z’s streaming service Tidal. Prior to its official announcement, ‘4:44’ was promoted by a number of mysterious posters around New York City. A short teaser ad for the record was aired during the NBA finals, featuring actors Danny Glover, Mahershala Ali and Lupita Nyong’o.
So far one track from the record (titled ‘Adnis’) has received a preview. ‘Adnis’ was Jay Z’s fathers name. In an official statement, Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure said of the record: “JAY-Z is a global icon and we’re giving customers an incredible opportunity to be among the first to experience his new album ‘4:44.”
Fellow artist Damien Marley recently confirmed that he would feature on the upcoming record, explaining: “We did some work in the studio recently and he wanted to come to Jamaica to get a tour of the place.“Well, I did some work with him for some stuff he’s working on. I’m not really sure of the details of his project in that sense, but we worked on some music together. I’ve been a fan of his music since he came out.”
