John Legend recently chatted with The Gaurdian about a sincere, yet difficult (and apparently humorous) moment with longtime partner and now-wife Chrissy Teigen.
According to Legend, several years before the couple married in Italy in 2013, he was “stressed and busy” and thought he needed time to be on his own.
“I was just like: ‘I’d just be happier single right now,’ and she was like: ‘No.’ She pushes me to be funnier,” he said, “not because she’s trying to, I think it’s just being around her. And to be bolder.”
The break-up took place for a mere 30 minutes before the two ended up back together. The heartfelt tingle is real, with Legend continuing to gush on his 31-year-old wife and best friend.
Legend also indulged on his perception of the media’s negative impact on women, and noted how Tiegan seems to handle it so well despite its ongoing beat-down.
“Women get it much worse. Because, anything you say, your looks are going to get evaluated no matter what, your right to speak is being questioned no matter what. I think the world in general is harder on women that choose to speak their mind about anything. I see it with Chrissy all the time. It’s awful, but she’s good at handling it.”
Legend released his fifth studio album Darkness and Light via GOOD Music and Columbia Records almost a year ago in 2016. The American songwriter and philanthropist will head out on tour September 8 in the UK and hit up other such territory as Africa, Spain, Portugal, Germany, and Switzerland, among others.
