There were serious fireworks at a screening in West Hollywood for a new Punk documentary, going toe to toe was Sex Pistols legend Johnny Rotten and Marky Ramone.
They were there to discuss the upcoming Epix docuseries Punk, and Rotten was on rare form.
As well as Rotten and Ramone the panel also consisted of Henry Rollins, Duff McKagan, L7’s Donita Sparks, and Punk producer/ designer John Varvatos.
Rotten was his usual ranting self but he saved the biggest verbal attack for Ramone. Kicking off with: “He’s not even an original Ramone,” said Rotten. Ramone replied: “But I did the Blank Generation album with Richard Hell, and you took his image. All you guys [the Sex Pistols] took Richard Hell’s image. That’s all you did…and Sid Vicious was the star.” Rotten then instantly replied: “That’s right, he was. He was the star for a–hole fake idiots like you. Enjoy your drugs and f-ckin’ have a happy death.”
It was interesting to see McKagan’s reaction on the panel, he really couldn’t get a word in, and summed up the whole thing in a photo on his Instagram page with the caption, “Last night was, uh, interesting. Good luck to @johnvarvatos and @iggypopofficial on their new doc ‘PUNK’ on @epix.”
