If you ever wondered what happened during the making of John Lennon’s 1971 album Imagine then you’ll love the new book due out on October 9thby Yoko Ono. The book, called Imagine John Yoko, is set for release on what would be Lennon’s 78th birthday.
Yoko states in a press release: “A lot has been written about the creation of the song, the album and the film of Imagine, mainly by people who weren’t there,” adding: “So I’m very pleased and grateful that now, for the first time, so many of the participants have kindly given their time to ‘gimme some truth’ in their own words and pictures.”
The book will be a 320-page hardcover and will go in-depth as to the making of Imagine as told, and remembered by the the 40+ people that were in the inner circle at the time.
The book delves into all aspects of the album, the writing of the songs, the way the album was recorded, and will also feature digitally recreated maps, floor plans and panoramas of the home and studios where Imagine was completed.
Yoko has included photographs from her personal collection as well as film stills, and the double-exposure Polaroids that make up the cover. As far as the pictures in the book, eighty percent of the photos have never been published before.
This isn’t the first time Yoko and Lennon have addressed the song “Imagine.” Lennon said in a video shortly before his death that Ono’s “influence and inspiration” merited a credit. She was finally given that co-writing credit last year.
