Metal Allegiance

-

Metal Allegiance is a rare collective of the world’s greatest musicians in the metal world who supremely represent the musical style with their worldwide influences and technical mastery of their instruments.

The current lineup of metal stars include vocalist Randy Blythe (Lamb Of God), lead guitarist Alex Skolnick (Testament), bassist David Ellefson (Megadeath), Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, The Winery Dogs), and guitarist Gary Holt (Slayer).

Metal busted onto the music scene in the late 60s and early 70s like a hail storm over Hell’s wastelands with the aggressive sounds of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple: “the unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal.” Metal 11

“And on the seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done. And while God rested, the devil created Heavy Metal.” (Black Sabbath)

With the sonic revolution came bands like Cream, Steppenwolf, Scorpions, and Blue Cheer. The genre has heard extreme transformations in sound since then with the likes of Megadeath, Lacunacoil, Arch Enemy, and Iced Earth.

Sitting down with award-winning drummer and Metal Allegiance co-founder Mike Portnoy, Rock My World was able to get the skinny on his personal outlook on joining hands with other esteemed players of the metal tribe.

“It’s exciting for me because after years of various prog and rock projects and bands, I never had a ‘real’ metal project.

Pretty awesome to finally have one and have it end up being the ultimate one, teaming up with all my friends from Megadeth, Testament, Slayer, Pantera, Anthrax, Lamb Of God, Mastodon, Trivium, Death Angel & more!”

Metal Allegiance announced on Twitter, just yesterday, the release of the supergroup’s new music video for “Gift Of Pain”. It’s the first single off their upcoming self-titled debut release, which can be found in stores worldwide this Friday, September 18th via Nuclear Blast Entertainment; the world’s largest heavy metal label.
