Matchbox 20’s singer Rob Thomas has made no attempt to hid his love of 80’s music and to prove it he has written a track based around the lyrics of a selection of hits from that decade for his latest single.
Called “Timeless,” the track is taken from his soon to be released album Chip Tooth Smile and the lyrics from the track are wonderfully woven together from a slew of 80’s hits.
Thomas sings: “I get lost in an ’80s song” during the first verse and from then on he does exactly that.
He quotes lyrics from Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” Sinead O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares to You,” “New Sensation” by INXS, “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” by Eurythmics, George Michael’s “Father Figure,” Human League’s “Don’t You Want Me,” Night Ranger’s “Sister Christian,” Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin” and Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight,” and more.
Rob heads out on a summer tour starting May 28th in Red Bank, NJ, and one thing to note is that with each ticket purchased for the tour online, it also comes with a free digital download of the new album.
“Timeless” is the third track to be released from Chip Tooth Smile, check out the official audio video below:
